Hotel Review: M Social Singapore

We’re still missing that wanderlust feeling, so off to another staycation we go! We decided to treat ourselves with a mid-week staycation at M Social Singapore. Taking time off from work really does wonders – to recharge, rejuvenate and spend quality time with your loved ones. For us, M Social is a great place for couples to stay at as there’s a ton of activities to do, explore the neighbouring vicinity and of course, the stylish and cosy rooms. We booked our stay via WorldRoamer, which helps travellers like us to discover local destinations!

Located at the Robertson Quay district, M Social Singapore is perfect for a mini getaway and offers you everything you need if you don’t feel like venturing out. It’s a 15-20-minutes walk to the nearest MRT station (Fort Canning / Clarke Quay) with many bars, restaurants and eateries in the vicinity.

Designed by a famous French visionary – Philippe Starck, the spaces in and around the hotel are well-designed – from the parrot illustration at the entrance, to the lobby and even the communal areas. We love the edgy interior and must definitely get an #ootd in one of the many spaces.

As an SG Clean certified hotel, M Social has all the mandatory safe distancing measures and protocols in place. We were there for early check-in at around 1pm and there was a slight queue. Check-in is usually between 3-4pm, so best to arrive earlier to skip the queue. Alternatively, you can pre-book your check-in time slot via M Social’s website.

Alcove Cosy Room

After check-in, we made our way up to our room on level 5 which was also on the same level for the gym and swimming pool! Yay to convenience! With over 293 rooms, you can choose between an alcove or loft-style room. For couples or those planning a party with a little more spending power, the loft-style rooms are perfect with full-length windows overlooking the picturesque view of the Robertson Quay riverside.

For a more affordable option, the alcove room comes complete with everything you need for a cosy and restful night. We stayed at the Alcove Cosy Room – which comes with a luxurious dreamy bedding and mirrored surfaces, and a 4m-tall pitched roof. It feels fairly spacious, even though there’s very minimal walkway. Each room is equipped with modern amenities including a wall-mounted flat-screen TV, coffee and tea making facilities, toiletries, free wifi, fridge, hairdryers, bathrobes, bedroom slippers and a safety deposit box.

We booked the Mix & Stay package and it was a really affordable deal. The offer comes with breakfast for 2, a complimentary cocktail making class and room upgrade (subject to availability). We had some time in the afternoon and booked the 3pm session where we learnt how to be a mixologist with Beast & Butterflies resident Mixologist, Vladyslav Yesepiv. It was an hour long session and it was a good time learning about the different syrups, tinctures, bitters and ingredients used to make a cocktail.

It’s a great couple’s activity and the main takeaway from this workshop is definitely understanding more about your partner and yourself. There were opportunities to try different syrups, alcohol and choose your preferred drinks to make a cocktail you’ll love! At the end of the session, you’ll also receive a complimentary M Social cocktail shaker. There are similar workshops depending on your preference – including art jamming and a scent making workshop.

Tadah! Here’s the final results from our cocktail making workshop – a tequila-based cocktail with guava, orange, grapefruit and ginger. And another with whisky, blue curacao, caramel and lemon. The workshop ended just in time for pre-drinks, and for us to kickstart our evening exploration of the enclave of dining and bar options in the nearby Robertson Quay area.

For breakfast, head to Beast & Butterflies on level 1 and you’ll be greeted with an artsy and lively restaurant and bar. The place feels very lively throughout the day, and in the morning you’ll be greeted by the neighbouring locals going about their morning jogs, walking the dog or even a casual stroll to the office. Food-wise, there are several options for breakfast that are served ala carte style. There’s a choice of Continental Breakfast, American Breakfast and Asian Breakfast – with the usual toast, bacon, eggs and hash browns. For a local breakfast option, recommend trying their Nasi Lemak here, especially their chilli! Not as spicy, rice is really fragrant and overall a really satisfying meal.

Lobster Porridge ($38)

Crispy Pork Knuckle ($36, full portion)

Beast & Butterflies also serves up dishes that seamlessly meld influences from East and West, showcasing modern Asian cuisine. We tried some food for lunch and had their Oven-roasted Pork Knuckle and Teochew-style Lobster Rice Porridge. Definitely recommend these 2 options on the menu – the pork knuckle is served with spicy thai nam jin sauce and Asian flavoured sauerkraut. While the Teochew-style lobster rice porridge is cooked in crab broth and baby abalone, then garnished with crispy conpoy, bonito flakes, ginger and scallions.

Swimming Pool

Before checkout, we headed to the swimming pool for a quick dip and tan. It’s an outdoor pool with two wading areas and a bar area in case you’re hungry for a bite. We absolutely love the serenity of the outdoor swimming pool, and the wonderful view of the surrounding area.

There’s also a well-equipped gym situated on the same level, which includes several free weights, treadmills, cardiovascular machines, exercise balls and more. Advisable to book a time immediately when you check-in as slots are limited.

Overall, the hotel’s appeal is definitely its idyllic location in the heart of Robertson Quay, and its beautifully designed rooms. It’s a suitable hotel for younger tourists or millennials who are looking for a staycation option with lots of surrounding activities and nightlife. The staycation packages are definitely targeted for the couples and also pretty affordable. Thank you to the M Social Singapore team for your hospitality, we can’t wait to be back!
