Raising The Steaks @ Morton’s The Steakhouse

Who doesn’t love their meats? We absolutely do, and if you’re in town for a date night in the city – this is it. Morton’s The Steakhouse is indeed a rare find in the city that offers an eclectic menu with more items than meats the eye. With over a decade here in Singapore, they’ve truly perfected the American classics.

Elevated bar area

We’ve not actually been to Morton’s prior to this (yes, truly missing out), and our first visit was delightful. Located on the fourth level of The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, it had a private yet intimate atmosphere with a slightly dim lighting in a well-thought dining room layout – there’s an elevated bar as well as a main dining area. With the right mood set from the start, we tried their new seasonal dishes and here are some of our favourites and must-try items!

Dining area

Starting off with the most obvious of them all – the 10oz American Wagyu New York Strip (S$138++) and 14oz Bone-in Filet Mignon (S$138++). These tender meats are in the class of their own, prized for its picture perfect marbling. Imagine thick, generous cuts and you can be sure that these exquisite meats are supremely tender – defining the phrase of raising the steaks. Morton’s also offer a great selection of wines to go with these premium cuts.

This dish, Truffle Cauliflower Mash (S$28++) was rather surprising for me as I’m not a fan of cauliflower. But mask that with some mashed potatoes and you get one of the most comforting dish which did not disappoint. An incredible truffle aroma and heavy, creamy flavour, it’s the perfect complement to a classic steak entrée. For a healthier and lighter appetizer, recommend trying their Beet & Goat Cheese Salad (S$26++).

Besides the meat options, Morton’s also serves a fine selection of seafood. We had the Moules Marinières (S$47++) – a tray of steamy plump mussels. Prepared in a fragrant white wine broth, you can really tell that a lot of effort goes into preparing such a fresh batch, as mussels do require a bit of cleaning. But the trade-off for that flavour is well deserving.

A towering creation, Morton’s Chocolate Layer Cake (S$24++) is a truly show-stopping dish. This four layer chocolate cake offers the ultimate indulgence for any chocolate lovers out there. Be prepared to share this though, the portion size is really huge!
