2. Cat & the Fiddle
A Singapore-born brand by Pastry Chef Daniel Tay, Cat & the Fiddle celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival with the inaugural launch of its first cheesecake inspired snowskin mooncake series. Themed “The Cow Jumped Over the Moon-cake”, this series celebrates the whimsical side of the brand inspired by “Hey Diddle Diddle”.
Besides the deep backstory, Cat & the Fiddle offers five cheesecake snowskin mooncakes of blueberry, strawberry, cookies and cream, chocolate and durian. An ingenious creation, we especially enjoyed the Oreo cookies and cream cheesecake which we find the most suiting to our tastebuds, with lotus paste, biscuit crumbs and dark chocolate ganache encased in a white chocolate sphere. Another showstopper is the Chocolate cheesecake mooncake, laced with orange vodka in a heart of a dark chocolate ganache.
Aside from their unique mooncake selections, Cat & the Fiddle has one of the more creative boxes this year, featuring colourful characters of the nursery rhyme and a tray that reveals a full moon blooming as you pull it out. This year’s line-up of sweet treats from Old Seng Choong includes a luscious range of eight baked mooncakes with new flavours like the Black Sesame with Yolk & Melon Seed, White Lotus Paste with Longan, Red Dates & Walnuts and Wu Ren Bakwa with Kaffir Lime Leaves.
Cranberries with Choya Snowskin
New to the range, the Snowskin collection titled ‘Four Heavenly Beauties’ is our favourite from Daniel Tay’s mooncake creations. Each snowskin mooncake comes with a chocolate truffle ganache centre, infused with alcohol like martini, whiskey, rum and Choya. Presented in a box of eight pieces – two of each flavour, our favourite is the Cranberries with Choya Snowskin 冰皮蔓越莓梅酒. An unusual combination at first, the pairing was surprisingly harmonious particularly because the Choya did not overpower the chocolate truffle, and blends nicely with the distinct taste of fresh cranberries.
A limited-edition range of animal-design baked mooncakes are also available for those who enjoy adorable mooncakes! These are perfect for young ones with animal-motifs of a fish, pig and rooster.
