Food Guides Travel

In my recent trip to Bangkok, we managed to squeeze in a number of cafes amidst the endless shopping and eating. While there may be more deserving places than this list, these places were chosen mainly for their ingenuity, feeding our hunger with their delectable food items, and fueling our thirst for pretty looking pictures. So without further ado, here’s our 8 must-go cafes with Instagram-worthy food items!

1. After You

First up no doubt is After You, a dessert cafe well-know for its signature Shibuya toasts. Not only do they sell Shibuya toasts, it features a wide variety of desserts such as Panna Cotta, Mille Crepe and Chocolate Lava Cakes. This cafe is a must-visit in Bangkok, with so many new branches opening up around Bangkok. I am highly impressed with the quality of desserts as well as the warm hospitality we received. Everything is very photogenic here, and they taste just as fantastic.

Ferraro Toast (Large – 255THB, Baby Size – 205THB)

The Ferraro Toast we had was indulgently sprinkled with chopped hazelnuts, crumbled Ferrero Rocher, slathered with a generous amount of hazelnut sauce and lastly topped with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream. The first bite of this dessert was just pure heaven.. REALLY! The exterior was slightly crunchy and quite sweet due to it being soaked in honey. The toast cubes on the inside were fragrantly coated with honey and butter. They were so soft and fluffy!

For something different, we tried the Queen B Fudge Cake (160THB) which was so dense, moist and sinfully delicious! We are in awe of their desserts, definitely worth every calorie.

2. Audrey Café & Bistro

Audrey Café & Bistro is a Victorian-inspired place decorated with white furniture and striped wallpaper. Poised as an elegant and sophisticated place, it is one of best cafes to spend your afternoon relaxing at. When the sun goes down, the atmosphere transforms into a romantic setting with its dim fairy lights making it perfect for couples to visit. They offer a menu which serves both Western and Thai dishes, drinks and desserts.

Thai Tea Crepe Cake (110THB)

One of the reasons to visit Audrey Cafe is definitely for their Thai Tea Crepe Cake. Drowned in a thick but not overbearingly sweet Thai Tea sauce over the layers of very light and fluffy sponge cake, this is pure bliss.

Audrey Cafe also has many other outlets but we found the one at Thong Lor to be less crowded and much spacious.

3. Counting Sheep Corner

I am glad that we chanced upon Counting Sheep Corner, a cosy inn-spired cafe tucked along the streets of Ekkamai area in Bangkok. With a blend of cutesy décor and hipster finds all around the interior; some of it are sheep related items just like the café’s name.

We had our lunch there and it was a wonderful afternoon to enjoy comfort food in a cosy atmosphere. Read our review here.

4. Maygori

Maygori is located at The Commons, a new hipster spot with many cafes to visit! Not only is it filled with so many eateries, the people behind it envisioned the space as a community for everyone to get together. Maygori is a small and adorable Japanese café which has recently opened at The Commons Bangkok.

The Commons

The Commons is so pretty!

Maygori Menu

What a gorgeous dessert!

Featuring the Warabi Mochi (215THB), take a look at the huge hill of delicately shaved ice! Topped with chewy mochi and covered in a blanket of soybean powder, this is the perfect dessert to combat the hot weather in Bangkok!

5. Rocket Coffeebar S49

From the outside, the windows do all the talking – held only by steel frames with full glass window panes. From the inside, Rocket Coffeebar S49 reflects a modern and stylish atmosphere complemented with sky blue palette furnishings. There’s no better way to let in as much light into the room with panoramic windows, and the cafe does this so well. The food and drinks here are equally brilliant.

Rocket Coffeebar S49 Interior

The Cruffin Matcha (95 THB)

Croissant meets muffin, and you get the cruffin. The cruffin matcha was no doubt amazing with every bite. The pastry was soft and flaky, and waiting on the inside was a heavenly matcha core. It wasn’t overloaded with sweetness, making an enjoyable and balanced dessert! I’ve yet to try a cronut (croissant x donut) but am already looking forward to!

Hot Cocoa (180 THB)

As we visited the cafe in the evening, we wanted something warm and comforting so naturally the hot cocoa was first in mind. Imagine all the elements of a hot chocolate, plated separately – you get a sort of an interactive hot cocoa! The idea is to dip and stir the cocoa stick into the cup of steam milk until it turns slightly brown and top it off with the whipped cream and cocoa powder. The cocoa stick on its own tasted extremely rich and pure.

Overall a great cafe to snap some pictures and enjoy their desserts. There’s also 50% off in the evenings so definitely head down if you’re in the area!

6. Shugaa

A pity that it was closed on Monday thus we did not get the chance to visit it – I have been wanting to visit it after seeing so many pictures of is gorgeous desserts. Shugaa is a trendy dessert bar that largely revolves around the main ingredient of sugar. Shugaa (as it sounds), utilizes the sugar base as the concept to the theme of the cafe. A novel idea, the entire space resembles closely to that of sugar crystals, from their wooden crystalline structures and polygon walls. I will definitely be visiting it the next time I’m in Bangkok!

7. Demi Concept

Charcoal and Green Tea Soft Serve (95THB)

We were surprised to see so many colourful food trucks smacked right outside most popular fashion mall in Bangkok. Demi Concept is located outside Mcdonalds and it serves stunning Japanese soft serve cones – I could not stop snapping away!
Not only is this Instagram worthy, it is such a smooth and silky soft serve which melts so satisfyingly with each bite. They come in three flavours to choose from – Thai Tea, Black Charcoal and Green Tea.

  1. […] Aside to the pleasant stay at Adelphi, our main reason for choosing the hotel was its close proximity to nearby cafes, restaurants and bars. The front office staff was really helpful with guiding us on the places to try nearby, and even provided us with a map with its exact location and outlet name. Our main mode of transport was through a metered taxi, which was convenient to flag down in the area. Though it is also equally possible to walk as the places were all located just streets apart. Just a day of exploring and café hopping is never enough, so here’s a number of places to visit if you’re only here for only a day, or read our review of top café places in Bangkok here. […]

  2. […] There are many food trucks lined up just outside Platinum Fashion Mall, and these food trucks serves up an array of interesting and unique snacks! There are also a few seating areas available for customers, good for if you’re taking a break from all that shopping. Our favourite not to be missed is Demi Concept which sells very Instagram-worthy and delicious Japanese soft serve cone. If you’re looking for other Instagram-worthy food in Bangkok, read our list of top 8 cafes to visit with Instagram-worthy items, here.
