Montana Singapore – An Artisan and Street-Styled Cafe at PoMo

Montana

Montana has undergone a revamp from its previous hole-in-the-wall location, and has expanded to take the upper-floor of its new two-storey space in PoMo Mall. Designed in dark colours and with warm spotlights hanging down from the ceiling, Montana goes for an industrial and chic outlook which makes it a really cosy space. With loud, hip-hop inspired graffiti on its walls, it is an artisan cafe that serves dishes which focuses on exploring flavours which are familiar to Singaporeans, using local ingredients in bold and innovative ways.

Black Velvet Waffle – $14

What a dark beauty! We chose to pair the black sesame waffle with my all time favourite Matcha ice cream – it is delightfully smooth, with a bittersweet aftertaste lingering in our mouth. With the miso caramel sauce and savoury black sesame crumble drizzled on this black waffle, I was amazed by how all these ingredients pull it off so well.

Jalapeno Mac & Cheese Waffle – $12.50

Do not judge its unpretentious looks, this was my favourite dish of the night. Infused with mac & cheese, truffle oil and tomato, it executes a perfect balance of flavours which makes it so sinfully good. The main highlight of this dish is definitely the tangy jalapeño sauce which I could not stop dipping my waffles in. Dipping these waffles in certainly brought out the distinctive taste of the truffle even more. A must order dish here at Montana Singapore

Assam Crab Waffle – $18

Topped with a generous amount of seasoned crab meat and pineapple cucumber salsa, the Assam Crab Waffle is made from eight different spices which made it slightly spicy. Deliciously paired with the assam gula melaka mayo dipping, I love how interesting this dish is where each ingredient is incorporated to these Asian-inspired waffles.

Truffle Egg Spaghetti – $16

A well-executed dish which is deliciously coated in a light cream sauce and scented with the ever aromatic truffle oil. Sitting beautifully on this dish is a bright egg which adds flavours to the pasta. Tossed with wild button mushrooms, this is a satisfying and filling dish which I recommend it for sharing.

Yuzu Coconut Cold Brew – $6.50

Montana is the first Coconut Cold Brew specialist where its menu features 5 signature coconut cold brews. A twist on the concept of cold-brewed coffee, ground coffee is allowed to steep in water for hours in a chilled environment. Coconut water has a natural sweetness and flavour which rounds off the bitter and acidic notes of the coffee, while adding a hint of complex nuttiness to the brewed coffee. Served in beakers and glasses which looks like they come the school’s science labs, the coconut cold brew comes with a coconut ice sphere smacked in the middle of the glass. With a light touch of sweetness and coconut aroma, this drink is suitable who is not a bitter coffee person.

Montana Singapore has a lovely ambiance perfect for gatherings or to chill with your friends. They even offer affordably-priced set lunches for $11.90+ which comes with a choice of pasta and a drink! What a good deal! We definitely enjoyed ourselves, thank you for such a wonderful evening.
