ION Orchard is looking for their own team of resident bloggers and these bloggers are categorised into 4 groups, namely fashion, beauty, lifestyle and food.
As you all know, I recently started my food blogging journey and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to be one of the few bloggers shortlisted for the Ion Insider Workshop!
We were brought to three places in ION Orchard to indulge in some yummy high tea and desserts! An afternoon that I was looking forward to 🙂
First stop: Salt grill & Sky bar– Modern Australian cuisine brought by Luke Mangan.
High tea tasting at the Salt grill and sky bar was definitely a unique experience even before I entered the restaurant. I was directed by the concierge at the level 4 of Ion Orchard to a designated lift within the Ion Art gallery for a ride up to the restaurant.
Upon entering the restaurant, I was amazed by the breathtaking skyline of Singapore! Standing at 55th floor and with full floor to ceilings glass windows, the restaurant was indeed spectacular yet relaxing. It was my first experience but I am sure that I will visit it more often just to chill the afternoon away or to dine here at night to see a different landscape of the city’s outline.
Make your reservations early to get a good seat for a panoramic view of Singapore!
Now onto the part that I was looking forward to, THE FOOD!!!
Salt Grill’s Afternoon Tea Platter:
Top Tier (Left to Right): Raspberry Macaron, Pate de Fruits, Mini Orange Tart
Second Tier (Left to Right): Coronation Chicken Sandwich, Smoked Salmon with Cucumber, Chive & Crème Cheese on Rye, Ham & Turkey Croque Madame
Bottom Tier (Left to Right): Almond & Cranberry Florentines, Chocolate & Jam Lamington, Chocolate Delice
Being a sweet tooth and a chocolate lover, my favourite items were the Chocolate Delice and the Almond & Cranberry Florentines. I usually will go for the savoury items first but when this three-tiered tea set arrives, I was so tempted by the sweet items and popped them into my mouth without hesitation ^^.
I was also inspired by the way the tea set was arranged. I absolutely adore beautifully placed food decorations and of course this was no exception. The tea set had an array of sweet and savoury items and it comes with scones too! Pairing scones while sipping on my favourite Chamomile tea is just one of the simplest ways to spend an afternoon at Salt grill. Not forgetting the awesome view of course! 🙂
The Afternoon Tea Platter is priced at $30++ per person inclusive of coffee or tea and is available from 2pm to 6pm daily. I feel that it is worth it to indulge in some treats in such a relaxing restaurant with a nice ambience. Definitely a place that couples can go or just a group of girlfriends to chill and gossip the afternoon away!
So tempted and hungry now? Make your reservations at Salt grill & Sky bar now! 🙂

Second Stop: Nara Thai– Voted Thailand’s best restaurant since 2006.
Nara Thai is extremely popular in Thailand and is famous for its Boat Noodles and authentic Thai dishes. Using age old-recipes and the highest quality ingredients, people that dine in Nara Thai can experience authentic Thai cuisine in a relaxed ambience.
The interior and setting of the restaurant has a modern look yet retains its cultural ambience.
The Erawan afternoon tea set is priced at $12.99++ per person and is available from 2pm to 5.30pm daily. With so many varieties of Thai goodies, this tea set is definitely a must-try/steal with such an affordable price!
Unlike the usual classic high teas which consists of cakes, tarts, macarons and pastries, Erawan afternoon tea set offers 11 sweet and savoury Thai snacks that were unique and so yummy!
Erawan afternoon tea set- $12.99++ per person
Plate on the Right (Top Tier of the set): Sticky Rice with Mango and Fruits Skewer
Top Plate (Middle Tier of the set): Thong Muan (Coconut Wafer Rolls), Kanom Bueng( Thai Crispy Pancakes), Look Choop (Sweet Bean Paste in Fruits Shapes), Thai Coconut Pudding, Agar and Coconut Jelly. the fruit-shaped bean paste dumplings are hand-painted with food dyes!
Plate on the Left (Bottom Tier of the set): Tapioca Dumpling with Chicken Filling, Chicken Satay, Minced Chicken on Pineapple, and Thai Golden Bag.
I like the way that these goodies came in bite-sized portions thus I got the chance to try all of them. My favourite item is definitely the mango sticky rice! The mango was very sweet and it complemented well with the fragrant sticky rice.
It was my first time trying Thai high tea and I am happy to get to indulge in these delicious snacks through the Ion Insider Workshop. 🙂

Third stop: Uncle Tetsu Cheesecake – Japanese handmade Cheese Cakes baked using the freshest ingredients.
Uncle Tetsu, which origins from Kyushu, Japan freshly bakes Japanese style cheesecake daily. Premium cheese and eggs from Hokkaido & Miyagi are used to make soft, light and fluffy cheesecakes.
Uncle Tetsu has several outlets in Shanghai and Taipei, it is so famous that long queues are seen outside the stores, with people willing to queue for hours for it!
Finally, Uncle Tetsu came to Singapore and opened its first outlet at Ion Orchard. Being a fan of cheesecake, I was excited to try them to see why is it so well-raved.
It is so interesting that they have so many different flavours of cheesecakes!
Neptune’s Hat: Mango Cheese Cake- $13.90
Cheese Cakes freshly baked from the oven!
I tried their chocolate cheesecake first and to my surprise it had an interesting texture to it. It was very light, fluffy and airy and with a hint of cheese and chocolate. Compared to the savoury types like the New York cheesecakes, this was much softer and simply irresistible.
The cakes are wrapped in paper and baked in round cake pans. They are then put in a larger pan that contains water, which keeps the cakes moist. These yummy cheesecakes are steamed before being baked thus so soft. After the cakes finish baking, they are stamped with Uncle Tetsu’s logo and beautifully packed!
Each of us were lucky enough to bring home one of their Original Cheese Cake and my family members love it too! No preservatives are added into Uncle Tetsu’s Cheese Cakes so they can be stored in the fridge for no more than 3 days. It was too addictive and was gone by the night itself! ^^
