The all-time family favourite dining location, Swensen’s, has launched an exciting new menu featuring an extensive array of hearty mains and 2 brand new locally-inspired desserts. Rolled out at all outlets in July this year, the household brand Swensen’s offers even more ways to spend quality time with family and friends.
We had a chance to savour in Swensen’s newly revamped menu over at the ION Orchard outlet, which occupies a bigger space than other outlets, perfect for gatherings. It is also the only outlet where the ice cream buffet is available.
We started off with the one of their best-sellers, BBQ Chicken. Presented in its usual big plate-style, the delectable BBQ Chicken is generously coated with their new guava-infused BBQ sauce, giving a sweet yet tangy flavour. Served with buttery mashed potatoes and vegetable-of-the-day, it is a rather hearty dish.
The Southern Style Chicken N Waffles is a visually appealing dish with strips of chicken layered on top of the waffle. Taste wise, it was rather average- with the airy waffle bed a little plain and lacking of fragrance. Served with Swensen’s all-new butter lime dressing, we felt this American comfort dish will be much better with the classic maple sweet syrup drizzled over.
Another one of Swensen’s classics, the Hawaiian Special is served with generous topping of ingredients including chicken ham, pineapples and mushrooms. Artfully layered and prepared on a crispy thin charcoal crust, it was definitely one of my favorites of the newly revamped menu.
This dish though simple, really stuck with me throughout the entire dining experience. The tomato based sauce was tasty and rich, and the meatballs were equally tender. Served with a bountiful serving of mashed potatoes.
The Seafood Arrabbiata Pasta was a real surprise. Definitely catered for seafood lovers, those who prefers a spicy option, this dish will sure to satisfy you. The spaghetti prepared al dente in spicy tomato cream sauce was flavourful, served with mussels and succulent prawns.
The highlights from this newly launched menu are definitely their 2 brand new locally-inspired dessert Sundaes.
The new ice cream flavours are infused with local elements of the Coconut Yam and Salted Egg Yolk. The Yummy Sticky Coco Yam Sundae is seriously addictive, and if you love the natural yam flavour like we do, this is the real deal. The coconut yam ice cream is layered with fragrant Thai sticky rice, red beans, coconut bits and fresh coconut milk.
With salted egg now a staple in almost every dish here in Singapore, it’s no surprise that the classic salted egg flavour is infused in the Salty Eggy Creamy Sundae. Topped with salted egg bits, butterscotch and waffle cubes, the sweet and salty combination tasted rather average, but we liked it nonetheless.
The newly revamped menu caters to a wide range of tastes, and we certainly relived the good ol’ family fun dining experience in a hospitable atmosphere. Their new menu offerings are available at all Swensen’s outlets from 1 July 2016.
