DurianBB Review: Instagram-worthy Durian Desserts

Calling all durian fans! Enjoy a dose of top notch Mao Shan Wang durians shipped directly from Raub, Pahang at the newly established DurianBB cafe-store concept in Crawford Lane. Tucked within the enclave of eateries and cafes in the vicinity, you would definitely spot this durian cafe from afar with their bright yellow storefront and their life-sized durian mascot greeting diners. The cafe is also relatively easy to find, conveniently located just 2 bus stops away from either Bugis or Lavender MRT.

From the moment you step in, the cafe’s warm and inviting atmosphere is seen on its quirky decor and a quote on the wall which reads “Because life is too short for mediocre durians”. True to their word, you can fix all your durian cravings as DurianBB offers fresh durians and manufactures durian products from the highest quality yields from its very own farm in Raub, Pahang – known to be the land of where the best Mao Shan Wang durians come from. They have ample indoor and alfresco seating, and on the inside there’s an over-the-counter pastry display, packaged snacks, durian merchandise and even a claw machine!

In terms of the menu, their desserts are definitely Instagram-worthy and you’ll most definitely be taking out your phones to snap an IG story. Here are some highlights from the menu you have to try!

Mousetrap ($8.80) – a no-bake MSW cheesecake shaped like a block of cheese. Those who prefer sweeter desserts can try thisas the yellow shell is completely made of white chocolate, and on the inside is a really creamy-durian filled flesh.

On De Ball ($7.80) – a trio of ondeh-ondeh infused with durian. The plating was quite unique almost like if you were eating at a fine dining restaurant. Flavour-wise, there was a good balance of durian and gula melaka syrup.

Match Me! ($7.80) – a MSW matcha cheese roll. Surprisingly, this was our favourite. The very core was filled with plump MSW durian flesh which was such a delight to indulge in.

Soursop Peach Soda with Lychee Bursters ($6.80) – a refreshing palate cleanser to have in between your durian desserts. Served with a white chocolate and bright blue syrup that you can pour over for that satisfying perfect drip.

Also a must try is their I’m Burnt St. Sebastian MSW Cheesecake ($8.80) – jumping on the burnt cheesecake bandwagon, their version comes with MSW durian pulp in the batter which had a good balance of sweetness to it. Overall, DurianBB offers one of the most interesting durian-infused desserts we’ve come across, and definitely worth trying even if you don’t often indulge in this spiky fruit from time to time. We’re obviously #TeamDurian at An Affair With Food, so this is definitely a little piece of heaven for us!

Don’t forget to grab a picture with their life-sized durian mascot! 🙂
