June’s Affair With Food [Hot New Eats]

With lots of new eateries and menus launching this month, we’re back with our list of hot new eats to check out! Whether you’re looking for a change of pace from your go-to dining spots or just looking for a new spot to discover, here are some places to check out!

1. District 10 Bar & Grill

District 10_Black Truffle Wagyu Burger

A diamond in the kitchen reserved for the most special of culinary occasions, check out District 10’s one-of-a-kind Black Truffle Waygu Burger. Going at $38 nett for a limited time only, experience this hearty burger served with a thick waygu beef patty, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese and topped with freshly shaved black truffles. A must try for your next date night spot.

2. Gaijin

Newly opened at KAP Residences Mall, Gaijin offers an intimate space to enjoy a menu of Japanese comfort food. Expect classics like Gyudon and Tempura Udon presented anew with quality ingredients, such as buttery slices of angus short plate and black tiger prawns, alongside creative new takes on old-school tonkotsu ramen. With a lighter yet robust broth, the Kara Gaijin Tonkotsu Ramen offers up to three levels of spiciness with a homemade chilli paste.

3. GOCHI Church Street Japan Kitchen (Pronto)

Newly opened at Church Street is GOCHI Church Street Japan Kitchen, a Japanese premium gourmet space spanning over 5,000 square feet housing six different food concepts. Bringing heritage food brands and modern day treats of Japanese cuisine and culture in one location, recommend checking out one of the four new-to-market brands – Pronto. This Japanese-Italian casual restaurant chain has over 260 outlets across Japan and serves affordable breakfast sets, pastas, pizzas and desserts. For those looking to get a quick cuppa, they start their coffee service as early as 7am and serve alcohol and craft Japanese beers by night.

4. Impossible Foods

Refinery Concepts has launched four curated Impossible™ menus , including Singapore’s first Japanese Impossible™ creations by Kinki Restaurant + Bar, and a collection of hearty dishes from DEAN & DELUCA, Oriole Coffee & Bar, and The Marmalade Pantry. We had a go at some of their quirky serving of plant-based meat goodness and really enjoyed the spread. Highlights from Kinki Restaurant + Bar: Impossible™ Omu Rice Burger, Okonomiyaki and the Katsu Sando With Apple Curry. Other comforting favourites include Impossible™ Sloppy Joe Pizza, Juicy Lucy Quarter Pounder and Spaghetti Bolognese.

5. Jamie’s Italian

This National Day, Jamie’s Italian is going all out with a spread of mouthwatering creations matched with Singaporean influences. Available from 19 July to 11 August, enjoy Jamie’s twists on well-known Singaporean fare such as the scrumptious chilli crab and crowd-favourite chicken rice. Other highlights include the Chilli crab pasta ($32.95++) and Tandoori lamb chops ($45.95++). For desserts, try their rendition of the Cendol ($16.95++) – made with coconut-infused panna cotta topped with pandan-flavoured jellies, sweetened red beans and gula melaka.

6. Nayuki

Popular cheese fruit tea and bakery cafe, Nayuki, has opened their second outlet at Funan! As part of the new store launch, they’ve introduced a new product to their range of Euro-style bakes – Magic Mango Mystique. The perfect balance of sweet and savoury all in one, the Magic Mango Mystique ($6.80) is a fluffy soft-euro bake filled with a velvety fresh cream and mango topping. This new flavour will be available at all Nayuki stores from July onwards and look out for their 3rd store coming to Takashimaya on 12 July!

7. The Peranakan

The Peranakan

The Peranakan restaurant has launched a specially-crafted Eurasian Peranakan menu as part of The Peranakan Festival 2019! Available every Sunday from 9 June 2019 to 14 July, the menu at @the_peranakan features a selection of well-known culinary delights from both Peranakan and Eurasian cuisine prepared by Chef Lionel Chee. Besides the mainstays like devil’s curry, featured here are some of the dishes guests can indulge in, including the Pork Belly Bits with Buah Keluak Sauce, Kacang Botol Salad, Pork Vindaloo, Potato Cutlet, Beef Semor and many more. With culinary heritage being one of the cornerstones of Peranakan culture, don’t miss out on the other activities happening during the month-long festival like cultural talks, workshops, live reads and more.

8. The Soup Spoon x Quorn

In celebration of World Meat-free Week, Quorn and The Soup Spoon have teamed up to create 9 new nutritious meat-free soups that add flavour and meaning to our conscious lifestyles! Available from now till 25 July, you can look forward to enjoying hearty and meat-free soups like: Sumo-Style Nabe, Buttery Tikka Masala, Budae Jjigae, Konnyaku Jaga Wasabi Stew, Italian-Style Cacciatore, Moroccan-Style Tagine, SG Ragout, Tokyo-Style Stew and Hungarian-Style Goulash. Highlights from the menu include the Ichinoji Cold Somen, Ichinoji Summer Ocean Mixed Box, Maguro Tartar with Yuzu Jelly and Salmon Tartar Ichinoji Style. From now till end August, enjoy 10% off any Unagi items and 20% off on Unagi Day (27 July).

10. Yàn

Yan_Steamed Hainanese Chicken Sticky Rice

If you’re looking for a spot to celebrate National Day, head over to Yàn for their special array of dim sum menu featuring five different creations ideal for sharing. For a familiar flavour that’s packed in a modern rendition, recommend trying their Steamed Hainanese Chicken with Sticky Rice Wrapped in Lotus Leaf. Other highlights from the menu include Steamed Xiao Long Bao with Bak Kut Teh Stock, Crispy Deep-fried Mutton Satay Spring Roll, Pan-fried Singapore Chilli Crab Meat Bun, and Steamed Carrot Cake.
