Tocha Bistro – 5 Reasons This Bistro Will Be Your Next Hangout Place

I’m sure we all have our favourite watering hole, but sometimes we may want a change of pace. If you enjoy a little quiet time away from the bustle of CBD district yet still want the ambience with good and affordable food, Tocha Bistro it is.

We chanced upon this quaint little bistro located along the offbeat Lavender area and instantly felt at home. This bistro offers both an indoor and alfresco seating alongside a wide selection of Western food, bar bites and even better – a set of drinks at really affordable prices. Now on to the food, our top 5 items you have to try are most definitely the Spicy Mid Wings, Carnivore Platter, Double Rock Burger, Grilled Cod Fish and Tocha Top Shells! Read till the end for bonus items!

1. Spicy Mid Wings

Strongly recommend trying their Spicy Mid Wings ($8.80 for 10) which had all the essence of how a perfect one should be, crispy and juicy at the same time. Each order comes with a side of sambal belachan too! Albeit spicy for my liking, the kick felt awesome after downing a few beers.

2. Carnivore Platter

Meat-fanatics fall in – if you can’t decide what to have and prefer having a bite of a few variations of meats then the Carnivore Platter is your ideal choice. Perfect for sharing, the combination comes with a slab of beef, lamb, chicken, smoked duck and juicy pork sausage. It’s also reasonably priced at $26.80, though I personally prefer if they switched out the duck for a thicker slab of beef!

3. Double Rock Burger

If there’s an item I’d come back for, it will be for this Double Rock Burger ($15.80). Thick juicy beef patties sandwiched in between the usual lettuce, tomatoes and topped with some gooey cheese! Plus, really love the thick cut style fries to go along.

4. Grilled Cod Fish

When it comes to mains with fish, it’s usually a hit or miss for me. Thankfully, the Grilled Cod Fish ($19.80) served at Tocha Bistro was fresh. It’s a little small on size for me so price point may be a little steep but the homemade mash, greens and baby carrots do make up for a decent meal. There’s also a Honey Mustard sauce to dip too if you prefer a stronger, citrus flavour.

5. Tocha Top Shells

While peanuts or wings make the ideal accompaniment to any beer drinking fest, I recommend trying their Tocha Top Shells ($9.80)! I have not personally seen this dish served at bars/bistros and this was certainly a first for me – think spicy, tangy flavours!

BONUS! Tiger Prawn Pasta & Baked Scallops

The Tiger Prawn Pasta ($13.80) is a real steal on price and serving – with 3 huge and juicy tiger prawns! Also try out their Baked Scallops ($8.80 for 3) which was surprisingly satisfying – something about it being topped with cheesy goodness instantly makes me a fan.

Besides places with rising price tags for beer and food, Tocha Bistro defines happy hour with their Crazy Happy Hour, between 5-6pm daily – where you can get a pint of beer from $7.80 and a bucket at just $25++ onwards (6 bottles). If you’re heading down after work, feet not happy hour extends from 6-9pm.
